Obituary for Charles Hayward Parker

Charles Hayward Parker (1941-2018)

Graveside services for Charles Hayward Parker, 77, of Grand Saline are scheduled for 5 PM, Friday, November 9, 2018 at Woodside Cemetery with Bro. Mack Swain and Bro. Randy Larpenteur officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Mr. Parker passed away in a Tyler hospital October 23, 2018. Mr. Parker was born April 5, 1941 in Grand Saline to G.W. “Dub” and Francis Erwin Parker. His early years were spent as a hard working farm boy. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Saline area. He boxed as an amateur for six years in the Texas Golden Gloves Boxing Association. An automobile accident on the 21st anniversary of his birth date left him paraplegic. Despite extraordinary physical limitations, he graduated from TJC with a real estate degree and brokered many deals in the east Texas region. He also enjoyed beef cattle ranching. He stoically endured decades of utilizing a wheelchair for mobility. He was personable, though gruff and direct and you never wondered what was on his mind. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and both sisters, Ann Parker Calk and Linda Parker Smith.
Survivors include one niece, Ronna Gunn Chapman of Fruitvale and many cousins and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Ben Duke, Dr. Andrew Darnell, Eugene Parker, Kenny Parker, Mutt Pugh and Steve Erwin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Sloan, Bill Byford, John Dunlap, Lane Melton, Mike Land, Ronnie Pate, Ronnie Taylor and Thomas Kindle.
As per Mr. Parker’s wishes, visitation will be held at his home beginning 4 PM, Friday the 9th.
