Services for Jack Douglas “Doug” Long, 81, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Main Street Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Winskie officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline.
Doug was born May 5, 1935, in Grand Saline, to Jack & Winnie Bell Teel Long. He passed away July 19, 2016, in Grand Saline. He spent his early years in Grand Saline where he graduated from GSHS in 1953. He graduated from North Texas State University in 1957. He lived in Irving, Hurst, Omaha, NE, Austin among other places and moved to Houston in 1969. Doug received awards from NASA and Lockheed Martin for his work creating computer programs for NASA’s space shuttle missions. He worked for Lockheed Martin as a computer programmer. He moved back to Grand Saline in 2000. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, John David Long; daughter, Shelly Jane Long; grandson, Steven Douglas Long; great-granddaughter, Lainie Catherine Long; brother, Gene Long; and sister-in-law, Doris Long.
Survivors include his son, Michael Jack Long and wife Lenore of El Lago; daughter, Jennifer Leal and husband Joe of League City; four grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole Gill, Michael Jack Long, Jr., Amanda Marie Fulmer and Brianna Avery Leal; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Steven Boone, Elijah Hunter Boone, Delilah Marie Fulmer, Liam Jo Fulmer, Baileigh Rae Long and Jamey Ray Long; special friend, Margaret Speck of Rusk; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be John T. Rash, Wiley Garland, Bill Clinkscale, Dewey Pierce, James Presswood, Frank Churchwell, and Clyde Dowdle.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
